The Department of Pharmacology, N.E.T Pharmacy College, Raichur has organised one day Seminar on “Scientific use of Experimental Animals in Research” on 15th December 2018 at Dr. S R Hegde Silver Jubilee Hall as a part of Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Navodaya Education Trust and N.E.T Pharmacy College.
Dr. T Srinivas, Registrar, Navodaya Education Trust was Chief Guest and Dr. R H Udupi Professor and HOD, Pharmachemistry presided the function. Dr. N Harishankar, Scientist E, Deputy Director, National Centre for Laboratory Animal Sciences, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad was resource person and Mr. Manjunath C J convener of the seminar were also on the stage.
The formal programme started with lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries on the dias. The Chief Guest Dr. T Srinivas addressing on the occasion said that the cruelty and sacrificing animals should be totally stopped in scientific and medical research. He expressed that the alternative methods do exists and the research scientist should involve themself in exploring newer methods without involving the animals. He justified this with several examples in successful completion of the research work. Dr, N Harishankar the resource person discussing the topic highlighted how the use of animals started for research work, why it is started, what type of animals are used for this, why they are used and what are the advantages of animal use in the research of Medical, Dental and Pharmacy fields.
Dr. R H Udupi in his presidential remarks explained why the use of animals in research is essential for scientific and medical research, what are its benefits in leading better quality life, opposition of representatives of Animal Right groups and control of use of experimental animals in the limitations of ethical frame work by the Government in the continuation of research work. He appreciated an excellent response from the institutions of Raichur by sending their delegates in good number.
A formal inauguration of seminar first started with an invocation song by Ms. Annura and Ms. Dhanya. Dr. T Shivaraj Gouda, Prof and HOD, Pharmacology welcomed the gathering. The delegates from Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), University of Agricultural Sciences, V L College of Pharmacy, A.M. E’s Dental College and Navodaya Group of Institutions were attended. Dr. Shiva Kumar Prof & HOD, Pharmacy Practice introduced the Guests. Mr. Manjunath C J presented the detailed report of the seminar. Ms. Priyanka, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacology gave a vote of thanks. Ms. Adeena Balkies and Ms. Praise Merin anchored the programme. Finally, the seminar ended with National Anthem.
