The Department of Pharmacy Practice, N.E.T. Pharmacy College, Raichur, organized a Guest lecture for Pharm D & B.Pharm Students on 4th September 2021 on the topic “Awareness of Eye Donation” on the eve of Eye Donation Awareness Fortnight celebrations. Dr. Divya Prasad, Department of Ophthalmology, Navodaya Medical College Hospital & Research Centre acted as resource person. Dr. Prasad while explaining the importance of vision in every individual’s life also stressed the need of Eye Donation in today’s life. She emphasised after the death instead of burning the dead body or burring it, if the eyes of the deceased are donated within 6 hours of death it will give the vision for two blind people. She told that this awareness of eye donation is tremendously improved in western countries, and there is a need to bring the awareness about the same in India so as to give a new colourful Life to the blind people. Several organisations in India also working in this direction and she requested the students & staff to pledge their support and willingness for eye donation.
There was a good response from the audience because of the fact that their eyes will serve the purpose even after the death. It has witnessed the pledging for donation of eyes by more than 30 students on the day.
The programme was anchored by Ms. Ishita Bhandari of V Pharm D.
