The 4th National Pharmacovigilance Week is celebrated from 17th to 23rd September 2024, “Building on ADR Reporting culture for patient safety” was the theme, The celebration is organized by the Department of Pharmacy Practice, N.E.T Pharmacy College, Raichur. The Pharmacovigilance Week celebration was a resounding success, with a diverse range of engaging activities held over five days. The inaugural event on the first day set the tone for the festivities, followed by a slogan writing competition coordinated by Dr. N. Nagadeepthi. E-poster presentation coordinated by Mrs. Aparna Lakshmi on the second day, which showcased the creativity and innovative thinking of the participants. The third day witnessed a thrilling junior and senior level quiz competition coordinated by Dr. Kontham Jyothi and Dr. Syed Mohammad testing the knowledge and skills of the contestants. The fourth day featured an essay writing competition coordinated by Dr. Praise where participants demonstrated their writing prowess and understanding of pharmacovigilance concepts. On the fifth day, Pharm D interns took center stage with an oral presentation on ADR case reports , impressing the audience with their confidence and expertise coordinated by Mrs. Aparnalakshmi.
On 23rd September Formal Pharmacovigilance Week Celebration was a grand affair, with a distinguished lineup of dignitaries gracing the dais. The Chief Guest, Dr. Arun K N,Medical superintendent Navodaya Medical College Hospital and Research centre was joined by President of the function, Dr. H. Doddayya, Principal, N.E.T College of Pharmacy, and Guests of Honour, Dr. Rita D, Professor and Head Department of OBG Navodaya Medical College Hospital and Research centre and Dr. Venkatesh Patil Professor and Head Department of Pharmacology Navodaya Medical College and the Convener, Mr. Binu K M, Associate professor, Dept of Pharmacy practice N.E.T Pharmacy College ensured the smooth execution of the program. The event commenced with an invocation song by Ms. Pragathi and Ms. Shradha, followed by a warm welcome speech by Dr. Shivaraj Gouda. The lamp lighting ceremony was performed by the dignitaries, and Mrs. Aparna Lakshmi introduced the esteemed guests. Dr. Arun K N delivered an inspiring address, He said that all the professionals working in the health sector and also the patients, if side effects of medicines are found, they can immediately submit the report to the concerned department through Navodaya Medical Hospital. In this regard awareness should be created among all the professionals in the health sector and also among the patients so that the safety of patients and the performance of medicines can be enhanced. Rita D spoke and explained in detail the different types of side effects of medicines and how to report them followed by presidential remarks Doddayya sir said that at least 30 (ADR) side effects of drugs are reported every year from the Pharmacy Practice Department of the college. Speaking further, he said that about 60 research articles are published by the students in various national and international journals every year.
Mr. Binu K M concluded the first session with his remarks, and the certificates and trophies were distributed to the winners and runners-up. A scientific session, was chaired by Dr. Prabhakar Patil, with resource persons Dr. Umesh Kumar and Dr. Mounika presenting insightful talks on Pharmacovigilance. The event drew to a close with a vote of thanks by Dr. Praise, the national anthem, and a delightful high tea.
